Hey, I'm Lily!

About Me

I'm a sixteen year old aspiring writer who likes to try new things. For example, running my very own website/author platform, or managing a summer cotton candy business with my mother. I am very entrepreneurial-minded, and am constantly musing over what kind of business or side hustle I should start next!

I am also a proudly homeschooled, Christian teen who loves God and seeks to grow in her faith and relationship wth Him.

About the Site

Canada Lily is, yes, in part an author platform, but I also publish frequent posts about writing here on my blog, specifically aimed at young writers like myself. I love the idea of being able to help other writers along on their journey, while learning new things myself. I would love it if you would stick around!

If you're wondering where the name Canada Lily came from, it is a play on both my name and where I live. There truly is a real flower called the Canada Lily.

Writing Accomplishments

Writing accomplishments. Yeah. Those. If you're a young writer like me, you might also cringe when you submit somewhere that asks you to list previous publishing credits. Maybe you don't have any at all. And that's okay. If you keep diligently at it, the chances are good that somewhere, sometime, someone will snap up your manuscript. Thankfully, I now have a couple of credits I can list. And don't worry, my list isn't yawn-inducing length (yet), not like the lists you might see in the bios of more accomplished (probably adult) writers. Anyhow, you can read below to see the accomplishments I am proud to share with the world.

2023

"Two Hats," a pantoum (type of poem), received an Honourable Mention from Dandelion Press in one of their short story contests.

You can find their site here: https://www.dandelionpress.com

"Side By Side", a pantoum, set to be published in Dandelion Press' first ever short story and poem anthology! This was my second paid piece.

"One Busy Mom," a short story published in Nature Friend Magazine. My first ever paid piece, too. (Well, other than those shop credits I got from Dandelion...)

2024

"Is Baking Cookies Usually So Hard?", a Middle Grade flash fiction story won an Honourable Mention in Kailei Pews' 3rd Annual Kids' Choice Kidlit Writing Challenge.
