3 Great Christian Children's Magazines That Accept Unsolicited Submissions

stack of magazines

I really enjoy it when I find an awesome opportunity to submit my writing somewhere, whether it be to a contest or to a more permanent opportunity like a magazine. I am sure there are others that feel the same as me, so here is a short list of possible magazines. Keep in mind that Clubhouse Jr. has a circulation of 50,000+ and Clubhouse has a circulation of 90,000+. I have yet to be published in either of those, and judging by their circulation numbers I expect that there is a fair amount of competition. I am not sure of Nature Friend's circulation base, but they have published one of my stories.

As always, the information below is just a sneak peek. Be sure to read the full guidelines for each magazine very carefully, as following the guidelines will help increase your chances of publication.

Nature Friend Magazine

Nature Friend is a Christian magazine dedicated to producing a high-quality publication that the whole family can enjoy, even grandpa. They have actually published a story of mine, my first ever paid piece. Their rates at the time I am writing this are as follows.

  • Full rights,10¢ per edited word

  • 1st rights, with right to reprint in their publications, 8¢ per edited word

  • 2nd rights, with right to reprint in their publications, 5¢ per edited word

Your payment is accompanied by a copy of the magazine issue in which your article/story is featured. They sent a cheque in the mail with my copy of the magazine issue.

Nature Friend accepts unsolicited submissions year-round, but they ask that you send seasonal writings 3-6 months in advance.

Clubhouse Jr.

You may have heard of this Christian magazine before. It is published by Focus On The Family. The magazine purchases non-exclusive rights to your work, 15-25 cents per word, paid upon acceptance of your work. You must sign a contract. Clubhouse Jr. currently accepts submissions by snail mail only.

Clubhouse Magazine

Clubhouse is like the big brother or sister to Clubhouse Jr. Both magazines follow the same pay rates, rights purchased, and, yes, Clubhouse gives you a contract to sign as well. One big difference is that the circulation for Clubhouse is over 90,000. At this time, Clubhouse accepts mailed-in submissions only. Perhaps it is intended to weed out the less determined submitters?

I hope this short little guide has been helpful. I plan to put together some other writing opportunities in the future, so keep your eye out for those!
